I recently had the opportunity to speak to a group of women who are doing cursive writing for someone else’s benefit. They shared that they thought that cursive writing was a language that they were “missing”. I started off by saying that I agreed with them. I said that cursive is not a language that we are born with, but a skill that we develop over time. I also mentioned that the primary purpose for cursive writing was to help others.
They were quick to correct me, and had a ton of great ideas about how to improve their writing. One of my favorites, which I have already shared, was to use the cross as a symbol of love. I also shared a few of the things that they had learned from their teacher. It was like I went to the gym with them, and we were both getting ready to do bench press. I also shared how I had just watched a documentary about the history of cursive.
I thought cursive was great, because it has a lot of meaning for me. I was able to read a lot more easily and didn’t have to look at the back of the page to confirm what I was reading. The cross also helps me to remember my own writing. Now that I’m taking care of business for Blackreef, I have some time to think about all the different things I wish I had learned.
As I said, cursive is such a great tool. Unfortunately, for many people, it is a language, and most of us use the same kind of writing to speak to each other, read our email, etc., because it is easy to do. To be honest with you, I prefer the computer method of writing a letter. It is much more legible if I want to look at the back of it.
To be honest with you, I have had people say to me, “I wish I could write the way you write.” I feel like I should say something to that effect, but I don’t know why. But if you want to write like me, you may be happier with cursive.
Its not easy to write “cursive” with cursive. There are a few things that come to mind. In cursive, letters are not only written vertically, but also horizontally. This allows for more space in a page and more legibility, but it also makes it harder to read. In the video game Grand Theft Auto, one of the characters uses a font called “Breezer.” It was designed to be easy to read, but hard to read.
It all comes down to your point of view, or your target. If you want to write like me, you may be happier with cursive. Cursive allows you to write with more room and more legibility, but it is a challenge to read.

I always thought cursive was a little bit of a mystery to people. I think it’s just a way for people to communicate across the room where people can’t really see you writing. I feel like I’m not the first person to look over a book and say, “I don’t know what it says, I can’t read it, I’m going to give it a try.
I have to say I am a big fan of cursive. I like how it works for me. It’s a beautiful medium that has so many shades of different strokes and colors. I like the fact that I can make words look like they’re just drawn in a very natural way.
