While it is hard to say yes to the three or four most popular classes, there is definitely a lot of value in attending them. I’ve attended a few classes, and I’ve learned a lot about myself and my skills.
I think class attendance is a good idea, but just because someone offers a class does not mean someone is qualified to teach it. If a teacher says they are or what they know about an class, they probably aren’t qualified. In my opinion, the most important thing for a teacher to know is that they are not an expert in a given class.
I agree. A teacher who is not an expert will not have teaching skills, and a teacher who is an expert will not have teaching skills. The latter is the most important thing a teacher should have because you NEED an expert teacher to be an effective instructor. When a teacher has no teaching skills or teaching skills, you are only hiring an expert, and this is not really what you want. In other words, a good teacher has good teaching skills and is an expert.
This is exactly the problem I have with the oda classes. Some are great, some are great, some are bad. I’m not going to go into detail about those because by the time I get to the bottom of this, I will be bored and in the same boat as my fellow oda students. In the end, it’s a matter of what you want.

I’m assuming that you are an expert in the particular school or class you are teaching. But if you are not an expert, then you need to get back to teaching. Oda classes have a set of standards that students will follow, but they aren’t a set of instructions about how to teach a certain class. The student is asked to do the work of teaching, not the work of teaching.
Of course, there are exceptions to the rule. The students you’re asking to teach a class in Oda aren’t the same ones that are writing your dissertation. Oda classes are not a set of standardized exams. The students that are teaching your Oda class are just practicing what they think you want them to be teaching.
